Hello all, this came across my email inbox recently and thought I would pass it along. I will vouch for Seth and frank - the work they do with "toy theater" is really fantastic, and they are a gouple of great guys in general. Here's the scoop:
Interested in singing in a short puppet opera? Join acclaimed Chicago puppet director Frank Maugeri at the Great Small Works Toy Theater Festival taking place at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn.
Volunteer performers will sing in a choral group during a brief (13 minute) epic miniature operetta titled "Laika's Coffin"-- a biography of the doomed first dog in space. Singers need not be classically trained, simply capable of carrying a tune and blending in with a group. Participants would join the performers onstage, perform (very) simple choreography, and sing three or four simple melodies, including a Russian lullaby.
The show is performing twice-- in Program 6 (on Friday 5/30 at 10 and Saturday 5/31 at 7:30) at St. Ann's.
You will be needed for a quick (~1.5 hour) rehearsal on Thursday, 5/29 in the evening, and also from 12pm to 4pm on Friday, 5/30 for a dress/tech rehearsal, plus the two performances.
To get a peek at the show (sans choir), check out a video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mpg7zvJYLXA
And please contact me (Seth) if you are interested or would like more information. Feel free as well to pass this notice along to any interested friends and colleagues.
Thanks very much!
